Kady's Sycamore, for Elliot Smith

circa 2004-2005 oil on canvas on board dimensions unknown

private collection (aluminum prints available)

This was painted over the winter when one of my my favorite song writers, Elliot Smith, was found dead with a self inflicted knife wound to the chest. I was gut wrenched and sad. I took my time with this one, trying to put all the meaning into every branch of the tree, every shadow, every shape. I sold this painting without even getting a proper photo and had not seen it till I borrowed it for a show in 2016. I was immediately floored by it and am happy to at least have a decent image of it now.
